fries lots of fries and IM SO HAPPY

Had one of the best nights in a while last night.

I took part in a comedy contest and before the contest I was NOT excited. This is a contest where people vote for the performers and the ones with the highest votes get prizes. I hadn't invited anyone so I wasn't expecting anyone to vote for me because people usually vote for their friends or family. Or so I thought.

I remember eating animal style fries with no cheese before the show and feeling very grateful for In-n-Out. ($2.59 in this economy can you believe it?) Then I bumped into a friend right outside the comedy club unexpectedly as he was leaving the place. It was so exciting because we'd just seen each other the day before at an open mic. When I told him I was dreading the show, he told me he knew someone who won even though they didn't invite anyone, but I brushed it off and went into the club not expecting anything. Like an hour in I kind of stopped caring about the contest because I was starting to have such a good time in the greenroom with the other performers. I was still very nervous before I had to go on stage though.

Then I had to do my set. When I say it was one of the best moments of my life.... sometimes when I am on stage I'll have these moments of pure ecstasy, it feels like you're being born again. This was one of them. All my anxiety evaporated the minute I heard laughter and I think I was laughing along with them, they were such a nice audience.

I got off and took pictures with the other performer who was in iCarly (I am trying so hard not to name drop gosh, but she was in an episode with Jerry Trainor and apparently they still occasionally talk) Then we all went and sat amongst the audience, watching the host do a set while the ballots were counted. (The host was sooo funny by the way, she was a lesbian and she had the funniest stories) When two of my friends won the third prize I was pretty happy because they got a bowl of fries and I wanted us all to get a picture with the gigantic bowl (well I guess I was happy for them, but mainly I was hoping to steal the bowl lmao). But guess who won second place?? Me! I was so surprised, I quietly walked over and grabbed my prize (a $50 gift card to cash in at that comedy club, I think I would've been a little more excited if it was a jersey mikes gift card but I am pretty grateful I won anything at all lol) and the rest was kind of a blur, I didn't even hear who won first place because people were congratulating me, and I got engulfed in this crowd with my friends (there were like 15 people but you get my point)

Trying to figure out how to maintain my status so I can keep staying in this country has been extremely stressful the past year. My options for work are so limited due to my v*sa, and on top of that I keep getting rejections everyday and every single one of them hurt a lot. I don't really know what I am doing. I am trying to tune out all the other horrible stuff going on around me (the fires, the pol*tics) because I don't know if I can control much of that, but it's hard not to feel like the world is ending. But here's some pictures that will keep me going I guess.

Some Pictures from last night (jan 23rd)

On my way to the show in Beverly Blvd. (January 16th)

Show in Ktown (January 14th)

I did two other shows last week (before my birthday). One show was in a bar in Korea town and it was scary using the Redline back after 9pm but I made it. Another was in Beverly blvd and it went pretty well. The host was so nice and welcoming to me when I told him I was new. He said super sweet stuff on stage after I got off, I couldn't stay the whole show though since I had to rush to catch the last bus back. I really really like Laurel Canyon Blvd. It's such a beautiful stretch I can't help but stare in awe whenever I am there.

I hope my financial situation is better the next time I blog. But that's neither here nor there. Also, I finally read Yellowface by RF Kuang and I was so impressed...the question stands, WHO has the right to tell the story?

xx
